Regent Honeyeater / Shade Amongst The Leaves - Print

from A$30.00

This print of is of a Regent Honeyeater. It sits upon a branch of an Eucalyptus tree blooming bright red flowers. It rests, its eyes watching and looking at the surroundings, waiting to decide its next move. This Australian bird is Critically Endangered and goes by the scientific name of Anthochaera phrygia. Titled “Shade Amongst The Leaves”.

Found in wooded areas of South Eastern Australia, they move in flocks. The Regent Honeyeater bobs its head when calling. Feeding on nectar and plant sugars, it also eats spiders, insects and fruit. It baths in puddles and pools. The loss of woodland has resulted in numbers dwindling to around 2000.

This is part of a series in which I paint portraits of Australian native animals that are disappearing - a tiny selection of the 10,000+ species worldwide that are extinct or facing extinction.

This artwork was originally painted with acrylic on wood by Alicia Rogerson. Her art is bold, vibrant and often inspired by nature.
